49,000 SIGNATURES GATHERED BY CITIZENGO
A petition has been addressed to the Royal Canadian Mint demanding the cancellation of the release of a new dollar coin design commemorating the 50th anniversary of the decriminalization of homosexuality in Canada.
Canada, April 15th 2019.- Several volunteers from the international platform CitizenGO gathered on Friday April 12th at the gates of the Royal Canadian Mint to denounce the new design of the one dollar coin commemorating the 50th anniversary of the decriminalization of homosexuality in Canada, which will be released later this year.
Apart from this protest, the international platform CitizenGO has put in motion an online campaign that has collected over 49,000 signatures in support, addressed to the Royal Canadian Mint, in which they demand that the Mint cancel the release of this one dollar coin.
In the petition, concerned citizens state that "just because homosexual acts have been legalized, that does not mean they should be celebrated or commemorated. Divorce is also legal - many restrictions on divorce were lifted in 1969, but that does not call for the minting of a ‘pro-divorce’ one dollar coin. Abortion laws were also liberated in 1969, but that does not mean there should be a ‘pro-abortion’ loonie."
The Campaign Director for CitizenGO Canada, David Cooke, comments: "It's more and more obvious that the Trudeau government is obsessed with pursuing its morally-corrupt agenda regardless of what Canadians say or think." He also adds, "I have no doubt Mr. Trudeau wants to pacify the small but powerful LGTB lobby that makes up a sizable part of his voter base. This is nothing less but an abuse of the office of Prime Minister."
