The Kenyan medical board favors abortion businesses against the law

-Over 15,000 signed a CitizenGO petition in 10 days demanding the disbandment of Kenya Medical Board and resignation of pro-abortion Professor George Magoha.

-Marie Stopes had offered abortions to teenage girls without parental consent and advertised the abortion illegally. They had been suspended for that but inexplicably, the decision has been reversed.

NAIROBI, 26 February, 2019.-The Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentist Board headed by professor George Magoha has reverted a decision of the board to suspend Marie Stopes abortion centers after hard evidence of their illegal activities was presented.

CitizenGO considers he has failed in its role to regulate those abortion centers in Kenya like Marie Stopes and others which lucrate dealing death to unborn children..

Last September, Marie Stopes abortion centers were freely and outright advertising abortions in Kenya. CitizenGO managed to raise over 5,000 signatures from people protesting this illegal activity and addressed the concerns to the Cabinet Secretary of Health.

Confessions by rogue Marie Stopes directors

The Cabinet Secretary of health convened an inquiry to investigate Marie Stopes. This inquiry was named as Ann Kioko vs Marie Stopes and was held at the medical board offices in Nairobi. During this hearing, details were unearthed. “This included open admission by Marie Stopes directors that they offered abortions to teenagers without parental consent. Under the Children Act of Kenya this is illegal.

Furthermore, Marie Stopes took pride in offering abortions on demand and did not have criteria of offering abortions in their many centers at a minimum fee of 5,000 Kenyan shillings (Around €44 or $50). Besides, their website and social media pages were advertising abortions against the Kenyan constitution and the penal code” said CitizenGO’s Campaigns Manager for Africa, Ann Kioko.

U-turn by Medical board in favour of Marie Stopes

With this hard evidence, the Kenya Medical Board suspended the centers’ abortion services for 60 days and ordered them to comply with their provisions. A complete reverse on a decision that was taken by the same board less than 60 days before.

The Board quickly lifted the ban on abortion activities of Marie Stopes even without offering an explanation to complainants. When Professor Magoha was questioned on this issue, he ignored letters addressed to him and the board.

“Now the demand is that the medical board be disbanded and replaced with transparent people ready to enforce the Kenyan law to the letter. We also demand the resignation of professor George Magoha as we do not know the masters he is serving. It is also worrying that the professor is also serving in the very crucial education ministry,” added Ann Kioko.
