PAKISTANI SUPREME COURT CONFIRMS ASIA BIBI’S ACQUITTAL
- Ignacio Arsuaga: "We celebrate that the Supreme Court has confirmed Asia Bibi’s acquittal, but we will not stop mobilizing until she escapes Pakistan safely. We ask the International Community to pressure Pakistan’s government to safeguard her life and guarantee her swift relocation to a safe country".
MADRID, JANUARY 29th.- CitizenGO is asking the International Community for help to ensure that Asia Bibi can leave Pakistan as soon as possible. On Tuesday, the Supreme Court confirmed Asia Bibi’s acquittal.
Justices Asif Saeed Khosa, Qazi Faez Isa, and Mazhar Alam Khan Miankhel rejected an appeal filed by islamist Qari Muhammad Salaam. Salaam tried, once again, to have the death penalty imposed on Asia Bibi. During the hearing that took place on Tuesday, the three justices considered their prior ruling from October and confirmed Bibi’s innocence.
"The court ruling was issued on the basis of testimony. Does Islam say that one has to be punished even if found innocent?" Chief Justice of the Supreme Court Asif Saeed Khosa asked. He pushed Qari Muhammad Salaam's attorney to prove that there was a flaw in the high court's October decision.

CitizenGO President Ignacio Arsuaga celebrated this news, but comments, "There is still much to do." He adds: "Despite the fact that she was declared innocent in October, Asia Bibi is not yet free. Radical islamists are clamoring for her death by hanging and have threatened the government with violent protests.”
Arsuaga also warns that CitizenGO will continue working until Asia Bibi and her family are transported to a safe country. "CitizenGO will not stop mobilizing until Asia Bibi and her family are safe. What they've done to this Christian mother is an atrocious example of an attack on a religious minority," Arsuaga points out. CitizenGO's President also released a video on Monday about Asia Bibi’s situation.
